Apulia lies on the very “heel” of Italy’s boot, where the Adriatic and Ionian Seas meet. This region is like an open-air museum: the ancient cave dwellings of the Sassi in Matera, the fairytale trulli of Alberobello, the snow-white Ostuni, and the baroque jewel of Lecce.
Cycling here takes you through thousand-year-old olive groves, past medieval castles, and along the shores of two seas. Every bend in the road reveals a new chapter of history, and every sunset paints the white city walls in golden hues.

Upon arrival at Bari Airport, we transfer you to the magical city of Matera (50 minutes' drive). Check-in at the charming Locanda di San Martino, right in the heart of the historic center. After settling in, enjoy a guided walking tour of the ancient Sassi cave dwellings, carved into limestone cliffs over the past 9,000 years. These stone labyrinths, listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site, will make you feel as if you’ve stepped back in time.

After breakfast, we prepare our bikes for the first ride. Today’s route takes us across the Murgia Plateau to the enchanting town of Alberobello — 65 km through rolling terrain of moderate difficulty. On the way, we may stop at the castle in Gioia del Colle.
Alberobello will greet us with its unique cluster of trulli — cone-shaped stone houses, often nicknamed "hobbit houses," decorated with magical symbols. Built in the Middle Ages, many are still inhabited today. Overnight at the historic Palazzo Scotto.
In the evening — dinner at a local restaurant with Apulian wine tasting.

A leisurely 25 km loop ride through farmland dotted with solitary trulli. Our route leads to Locorotondo — a white hilltop town with breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside. Stop for a traditional Italian coffee in the town center.
This is the perfect day to slowly take in Apulia’s countryside — endless fields, vineyards, and olive groves.
Return to Alberobello in the evening, free time for walks.

We begin the day exploring Gallipoli’s old town, located on an island connected to the mainland by a 16th-century bridge. Then, a 50 km coastal ride along the Ionian Sea past medieval watchtowers, white beaches, and tiny fishing villages to Santa Maria di Leuca — the southernmost tip of Apulia.
Here, the two seas meet, and a majestic lighthouse on the cliff is connected to the port by a stunning staircase of 284 steps. Overnight at L’Approdo Hotel with sea views.

We leave the land of trulli and head to the coast — 40 km via the medieval town of Cisternino, with its maze of narrow streets, to the jewel of Apulia — the snow-white Ostuni.
Ostuni impresses with its ancient fortified walls and majestic Gothic cathedral (1495) rising above the ruins of a Norman castle. From here, a minibus transfer takes us to the fishing town of Gallipoli on the Ionian Sea. Overnight at Bastione San Domenico.

Our final 52 km ride takes us along quiet country roads through centuries-old olive groves to Lecce — the "Florence of the South." The city is considered an open-air baroque museum, famous for its monuments carved from warm golden local stone.
